Rachel Thompson

Author Interview – Angelina Rose

What is hardest – getting published, writing or marketing? Before I start writing, the story has been building up in my mind for a little time… it just grows and grows. What I try to do is simply make all my characters people. Every person I see in the course of my day, whether I know them or not, is actually a hero or heroin in their own story. So, writing about characters and their stories is not hard. Self-publishing means we can all put a story out there. Marketing… oh dear, it keeps me awake at night, wondering what I should do or shouldn’t do.

What marketing works for you? This is my first virtual book tour … so I’m thrilled to have found this. Connecting with readers on FB and Twitter are great ways I have found to connect with readers…  and I enoy interacting on FB. I have used Press Releases and Giveaways but have not as yet taken part in Internet Radio.

Do you find it hard to share your work? I started out with sharing short stories… then built up my word count. I learned to accept my writing is not for everyone and I am still growing with my writing.

Its always exciting for me to share my stories and see who likes them and who doesn’t. That’s how I learn and grow…

Is your family supportive? Do your friends support you? My husband is supportive although he doesn’t understand the process at all. He likes to receive a set amount of money on a regular basis, he doesn’t like guessing what his income will be. My friends think its great, they have a laugh about it but they like it!

Do you plan to publish more books? I’m progressing with my writing. Although I am still writing romance, I am currently combining romance with suspense … and am playing around with a contemporary idea.

What else do you do to make money, other than write? It is rare today for writers to be full time… I am a Registered Nurse, registered in the US as well as Australia. My two specialities are almost the opposite of each other… Oncology and Pediatrics.

What other jobs have you had in your life? I have worked as a Health Coach, Chemical  Dependency Counselor, and helped my friend in her Fashion Boutique

If you could study any subject at university what would you pick? Veterinary Science

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? Maui, HI

How do you write – laptop, pen, paper, in bed, at a desk? I like to use my laptop or iPad. As I can write for hours and hours, I find working at a desk the best option for me. My cats are my helpers (?) … they sit in my lap or help me by walking across the keyboard.

Where do you get support from? Do you have friends in the industry? Yes, I have friends who are authors and belong to a Writer’s Group

How much sleep do you need to be your best? I’m hopeless with less than 8 hours sleep.

Is there anyone you’d like to acknowledge and thank for their support? There are many people who help authors … there’s the graphic artist, the proof-reader and editor, and the person who formats the copy. I would like to thank them… they go over and above to help me.

Every writer has their own idea of what a successful career in writing is, what does success in writing look like to you? A successful writing career for me starts with inner peace from doing what I’m meant to do, plus my dreams coming true… which means I would be earning a reasonable amount from book sales, plus spending time touring and meeting my readers.

Finaling for or winning an award is gratifying because it tells me that I must have done something right.
