My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What major emotion did the story evoke in you as a reader? Optimism for the future.

Did you like the way the story ended? Totally loved the ending. So glad to know how Ethan turned out and have a glimpse into his later life.

Top 3 things I liked about the main character. Olivia – strong, independent, knew how to enjoy life

What did you think of the cover? The cover was perfect, shows adults that this is something for kids to help them learn. Then looking at it from a kids perspective it shows fun.

What did you like about it? I really loved the little quiz at the end of each chapter. Helps kids to remember the knowledge they learning while reading.

What are your concerns about this book? The book is only available in digital format. Would love to see this in print.

What part would you change in the story, and why? I would not change anything. So much information provided in a fun way for kids.

Review: The Kings of Charleston (The Kings of Charleston #1) by Kat H. Clayton

The Kings of Charleston (The Kings of Charleston #1)The Kings of Charleston by Kat H. Clayton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What did you think was the most interesting part of the book? When the truth about the move came out. Why Casper had to be the one to join Kythera. Why she had no choice in the matter. Why her father made the business deal with Tyler. These were the things that kept the story going for me.

What is the time period in which the book happens? Only the month is clearly mentioned and I think the book would work in any time period.

What did you think of the style of the writer? I liked the writer and her style. She told just enough detail without rambling or boring me.

Interview & Review: Our Little Secrets (Montana Romance) by Merry Farmer

Our Little SecretsOur Little Secrets by Merry Farmer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Favourite location / setting… Michael, Charlie, Phineas, Delilah, and Ms. Helen, having dinner with Michael’s father at Phineas house.

Did anyone in the book do something you did not like? Why? Was not fond of Phineas being roughed up. I understand this book is fiction and not real, but does not mean I have to like a character being harmed because of their sexual preference.

Compare two of the characters in this book. Charlie – friendly, likeable, easy going; Ms. Helen – a con artist (need I say more?)

Have you included a lot of your life experiences, even friends, in the plot?  In a way, yes.  I know how it feels to want to disassociate yourself from your past (although my past is more on the sad side than the bad side).  And I do have several characters in the series who are based on people I know in real life.  But I’m not exactly sure I want to say who and how since they might find out!

How important do you think villains are in a story?  They’re essential!  You need to have an antagonist of some sort to provide the obstacles that get in the way of your protagonist achieving their goals.  Aside from that, they can be great fun!

What are your goals as a writer?  My goal as a writer is simple.  I want to do whatever it takes to enable me to continue writing as much as possible for as long as possible.  That means selling enough to be able to make a living off of my writing so that I don’t have to work a day job and can, therefore, spend more time writing.  I’d also like to travel to different conferences teaching workshops about writing and self-publishing.

Do you have to travel much concerning your book(s)?  I haven’t had to travel so far, but I would LOVE to do a lot more traveling in the future.  In particular, I’d like to live in England for a year.  And Australia.  And Canada.

What books have most influenced your life?  I guess I would have to say all of the piles and piles of historical romance novels I read when I was in high school.  It was a revelation to find out that there was, in fact, an entire genre of the kind of books I wanted to read and write already established.

Who is your favorite author and why?  Overall, definitely J.K. Rowling.  Not only are the Harry Potter books awesome (and The Casual Vacancy is actually awesome too, although she should have published it under a different name for people to give it a fair reading), but the story of how she got where she is and what she’s done with her fame and fortune since earning it are so inspiring.  I doubt I’ll ever achieve that level of stardom, but if I do I would like to give back the way Rowling has.

Review: Colorado Mandala by Brian Heffron

Colorado MandalaColorado Mandala by Brian Heffron
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Content (overall theme, idea and setting) - The themes, ideas and plot were revealing. However, I found Sarah’s connection to Paul and Michael a little farfetched. The whole concept of you can do anything to me and I’ll still be your friend didn’t really work throughout the book.

What I liked - As impossible as it seemed, I liked the strength that came from Paul’s character. He was a true friend who never gave up on their friendship. As the story unfolds, his character presents a twist to the story which reveals Michael’s secret.

What I didn't like – Michael was very abusive and the secret he thought he was keeping was an eye-opener and will definitely be a surprise for any reader. I did a learn a lot about post traumatic stress his character growth or lack of it wasn’t always easy to emphatize with.

Review: Evergreen (A Serial Killer Thriller) by David Jester

Evergreen (A Serial Killer Thriller)Evergreen by David Jester
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Different time and place? It would have made a huge difference if everything wasn't contained in this community.

3 things I like about main character? Patrick was the head of the entire community. He tried to do, what was right. He tried to understand what his mother did

Describe two different settings or locations. When Suzie was hung naked on the gate posts. Patrick in the basement, where he met the killer face to face. Both scenes came as a shock to me.

Review: Finding Claire Fletcher by Lisa Regan

Finding Claire FletcherFinding Claire Fletcher by Lisa Regan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If you were to talk with the author, what would you want to know? I would like to know, what else she has written? I understand she has one other existing book but I would like to know if there were other books in the pipeline and if she is ever going to write about another heroine like Claire.

Consider the ending. Did you expect it or were you surprised? Lisa is a talented writer and the ending although a surprise, took some technical expertise to pull off. It was so seamless, the reader doesn't feel as if the ending was forced.

Is the story plot or character driven? Both were equally strong. Every single character was perfectly developed and the emotional roller coaster Lisa starts for the reader is bound to make anyone grateful for the lives they lead without having to deal with situations like Claire's.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Favorite character, what they believe in? Cassie, and she just wants the truth about her sister's death and her ability to see things.

Hope in the end? I feel hope that everything will be finished when the author writes a second book. This time around the ending wasn't exactly an ending.

Concerns about book? The open ending, feel readers will not understand everything or leave bad reviews because of the way it ended.

Review: Amidst Traffic by Michel Sauret

Amidst TrafficAmidst Traffic by Michel Sauret
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Formatting / Appearance. Did not find a single problem with the formatting or appearance of this book.

How would the book have been different if it had taken place in a different time or place? The author did not write about modern electronics. He did have a few sentences where modern vehicles were used and air planes. But I personally felt these stories could take place in almost any time from when vehicles and planes were in use.

What makes a minor character memorable? The actions they take. I felt there were a handful of minor characters throughout all the stories.

Review: Semmant by Vadim Babenko

SemmantSemmant by Vadim Babenko
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

How realistic was the characterization? Bogdan was an eccentric in every aspect of his life. He was moody and unfilled. Just as most people of genius levels are. He was irrational concerning many topics.

How does the setting figure into the book? Never really felt like I was there. He wasn't ever content or happy and these feelings sometimes passed on to the reader.

What are some of the book's themes? His many career changes, his many women. A hunger that couldn't be satisfied. How rich he became from Semmant playing the stock market.

Review: Tainted Waters by Maggie Thom

Tainted WatersTainted Waters by Maggie Thom
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you could only save one character from the book in the event of a disaster, which one would it be and why? My heart went out to Keegan. He finally knew all the secrets about his family and with this, he had found his roots and had a stronger sense of belonging.

Is the title a good one or a poor one and why? For this reader, the title is suited for the book. Everyone was killed because of the lake property. In other words, the waters were also tainted with blood.

Did you like the way the story ended? The story was finished. All secrets were exposed. Drug dealers were busted so I do not have any complaints. Thom is a fantastic writers and I really want to read other books by her.

Review: Be Good by Dakota Madison

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What did you like about it? That Anna learned her life is not in a bottle or jumping from bed to bed.

Have you ever experienced anything similar to the action of this novel? I have experienced the hurt that Brett caused Anna.

What part would you change in the story, and why? I would add Jake as showing more concern for Anna. He is her brother. Family should be concerned for each other.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

What I liked. I love a good mystery and this book was definitely a good read.

Top 3 things I liked about the whole book. I love the story, The author’s clean, distinctive writing style and of course, the book setting on the west coast

Favourite quote … The first time Spencer is showing how much he is unconcerned with Katie

“You think you may have been kidnapped as a child?” His doubt was obvious. “Don’t you think you’d remember something like that or at least that your parents would have said something to you?”

Review: Gabriela and The Widow by Jack Remick

Gabriela and The WidowGabriela and The Widow by Jack Remick
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What were the main relationships explored in this book? Gabriela and Nando's relationship was interesting in so many ways. It wasn't a good relationship and it reflected the worst side of a human being but the way Remick uses this relationship to introduce and maintain the toads in the story, wow. The female relationships - Gabriela and Liah / Gabriela & La Viuda - were less hurting, a bit more complicated but were also filled with emotions and lessons that would make you think of the women in your life.

Are the characters rich and developed? When you read some books, you start to think about it should be like this or this character should have done that. This is one of the few books you won't be doing that. The characters are that good.

What is the time period in which the book happens? Doesn't give an exact time but it starts when Gabriela is 14. Despite the symbolism and somewhat ceremonius lives of Gabriela and La Viuda, this is a compelling story that must be read by anyone who likes drama.

Review: The Book of Paul by Richard Long

The Book of PaulThe Book of Paul by Richard Long
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

How did the main character feel during the book? I felt like Martin was confused as to why everything was happening. He wanted clarity and yet allowed himself to be pushed around.

What did you enjoy about this book? I enjoyed the dark topics. This book had many twists and turns and the humor was a great touch.

What motivates a given character’s actions? Love motivates Martin to try to do the right thing. He does the best he can, given the terrible way he was brought up.

Review: Sex and Death in the American Novel by Sarah Martinez

Sex and Death in the American NovelSex and Death in the American Novel by Sarah Martinez
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

How did you feel about the main character? I liked Vivianna, but felt she did not fully understand the relationship between her parents. She blamed everything on her father.

What did you enjoy about this book? All the heated discussions during the book club. What defines great literature? What makes a book a classic? Just because a book was wrote 50 -100 years ago does not make it a classic.

At the end of the book, do you feel hope for the characters? I feel hope that Vivi, Jasper and Alejandro will live a happy life.

What have you read that is similar to this book? I have read lots of poetry books but this was the first poetry book dedicated to pets and it was defintiely something different.

What did you enjoy about this book? Each poem was different and not just because it was about a different pet. The angle and focus was different.

Was this a Page-Turning Book? It most definitely was. And I enjoyed the discussions we had about this book.

Review - Sleeper's Run by Henry Mosquera

Sleeper's RunSleeper's Run by Henry Mosquera
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What was the main character like? Eric comes across as a drunk first. But as you learn more about his PTSD, you tend to feel empathy for him and want to make sure he gets the answers he needs.

Is the title a good one or a poor one and why? The title fits the story so well. It was perfect and in some ways, the story moved the reader into a running pace as well.

What is stronger in the book: plot or character development? The book club members and I are drawn on this. Some of us believe the plot is strongest while others believe character development is strongest. Whether it was intentional or not, I will leave that up to the author or future readers to answer.

Compare two of the characters in this book. Ellie - brains, driven, loner, plain, loner. Tandy - beautiful, kung fu queen , wife and mother.

What part would you change in the story, and why? I would have a good guy in Ellie's life. Because she's tired of being alone and she deserves a family of her own.

Tell what you think is the climax of the book and why. When Rick was found naked and buried in the snow.
